The forecasted electric future will require a massive increase in the supply of minerals such as lithium, copper, cobalt, nickel, and Rare Earth Elements, which are essential components of today's EV batteries and renewable energy technologies. Mining activities, essential for our tech-driven lifestyle, pose a significant environmental challenge, contributing to 4-7% of global GHG emissions. Moreover, the production of minerals and metals adds to this impact, with steel manufacturing alone contributing an additional 7% to global emissions and aluminum adding another 2%.
