Born in Malibu but raised in Newbury Park, California, Caillat had a music producing father growing up but wasn’t inspired to be musical until hearing Lauryn Hill’s performance in the film “Sister Act 2”. The song became a hit, pulling in thousands of listens a day and the singer accumulated thousands of followers in no time at all. • Colbie Caillat

Since stepping onto the scene in 2007 with her debut album, ‘Coco,’ Colbie Caillat is the quintessential California girl next door. From her casual style to her laidback vibe, her performances quickly put you at ease and make you forget about any of the stresses you had during the week.

Seeing her for the first time during a special performance at the W Hotel in Hoboken, N.J. was a treat as I already fell in love with her first album. With her all-male backup band, she sang to a small crowd of about 50 in one of the hotel’s event rooms. And although this was not the traditional stage that she would be used to performing on, Colbie, the daughter of Ken Caillat, co-produer of ‘Rumours,’ commanded the floor as if it were a stage in a packed club. Singing hits like ‘Bubbly’ and ‘Fallin’ for You,’ she immediately drew the attention of all the teen and tween girls in the crowd who looked on with sheer admiration. As for the older attendees, her music about first loves, innocent crushes and even curing a heartbreak with nothing else but a bottle of our favorite whisky or wine revived the times when we, especially I, felt freer. While I was still in my mid 20s at the time, songs like ‘Midnight Bottle’ and ‘Realize’ brought me back to a moment in my life when I felt like I didn’t have as many responsibilities.

However like me, Colbie as well as her music has grown and has put out four studio LPs and a Christmas record. Performing on a number of headlining tours and even more sporting events, I’ve always favored her smaller gigs. Because of the lightness and calm in her voice, large crowds seem to take away from the intimacy of the show.

Whether it’s a heartbreaking ballad like ‘I Never Told You’ or a toe-tapping ukulele-strummed song like ‘I Do,’ a Colbie Caillat performance will also be a happy time and will probably make you crave a frozen margarita on the beach right after.

  • Colbie Caillat lives, breaths and oozes the California sunshine. The songstress broke from beneath the radar in 2007 and has been on the rise ever since, her warm personality and easy listening folk pop sound has seen her achieve a universal appeal globally. She is so unassuming onstage and appears to be the quintessential girl next door. One thing that is not unassuming however is Caillat's vocal which is very well trained and is able to reach a number of complex ranges whilst remaining melodic overall.

The audience watches on in quiet appreciation as Colbie selects her own preference from her albums, often dismissing some more commercially successful work for heartfelt versions of the likes of 'Battle' and 'Bubbly'. She smiles broadly as the crowd sing along with her and addresses them endearingly as she says heartfelt thank yous. The whole room is involved for an upbeat finale of 'Brighter Than the Sun' which the band really enjoy playing live and the fans enjoy hearing even more. A class act with both integrity and likability who is assured to go even further in the future.

  • Colbie Caillat is an American pop and folk singer and acoustic guitarist who has achieved international success with her beautiful, melodic music. Caillat is a natural performer and born musician with a beautiful voice. A relatively humble performer, Caillat is the quintessential Californian girl next door with her laid back sense of style and her friendly manner. She greets the crowd happily, thanking everyone for coming. The stage is minimalistic; all she needs is her mic, a stool and her trusty guitar. Caillat entertained the crowd with a number of her hits including the famous ‘Bubbly’ which created a wonderful atmosphere that got the whole crowd singing along and clapping their hands. Caillat also performed a number of her new songs such as ‘Try’, from her latest album, as well as older songs such as ‘The Little Things’. When Caillat struck up the chords for ‘I Never Told You’, the whole crowd went silent in awe of her beautiful vocals and enjoyed the enchanting tune in silence. Caillat’s hit ‘Lucky’ ended the show on a high.

  • One of the better shows I have seen in 2017! I had never been to Fred Kavli Theater before. What a nice venue. The seats were spacious with plenty of leg room. Colbie Caillat was wonderful, taking the audience on a trip through her catalog of hit music in chronological order. I am planning on checking the schedule of events to that venue as it was really a great evening of music and so close to home!
