Mather, founded in 1941, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating Ways to Age Well.

About us

Mather is on a unique mission to change the way society views aging. Founded in 1941, we actively create Ways to Age Well through award-winning senior living residences, inspiring programs that keep people connected, and a research institute dedicated to identifying the latest innovations insharing information trends related to aging well. An incredible 92% of Mather team members say they feel like they are making a difference, and there’s a good reason why—it’s because they ARE. Our diverse team of 600+ life-changers across hospitality, health care, culinary, wellness, and more are making the journey of aging more rewarding by turning ordinary moments into extraordinary ones for a generation of older adults. Together, these team members make our residences exceptional places to live, raising the bar and setting a whole new standard for what senior living can and should be.

    Our CEO and President, Mary Leary, is featured alongside four other industry leaders in the publication, “The Entrepreneurial Spirit of Seniors Housing: Thoughts, Stories, and Lessons on Leadership” by the American Seniors Housing Association. The collection features perspectives from leaders who have contributed enormously to their respective organizations and to the senior living industry. Within her chapter, they write: “Mary Leary has had her finger on the pulse of [the industry] for nearly four decades…and has also earned the moniker of ‘Changemaker’ which will come in handy as the industry adapts to the needs of the baby boomers.”

    Mather is piloting hydroponic gardens! It's an exciting venture as we test our green thumbs. We are currently cultivating a variety of produce, including tomatoes, lettuce, and herbs, with the hope of implementing these self-contained mini gardens for older adults living in Chicagoland.
