WILDFIRE UPDATE: Due to wildfires in the vicinity, the Village of Ruidoso was evacuated yesterday evening. Our thoughts are with everyone in the community who is impacted by this difficult and frightening situation. Staff sheltering at Lincoln County Medical Center remain safe and have been caring for a limited number of Emergency Department patients. Other patients have been moved to another healthcare facility. Outpatient clinics are closed and appointments and non-emergency procedures have been cancelled. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will adjust our approach as needed for the safety of our employees and community members. Patients and members who need support with medications or other concerns can call our customer service center at 1-844-505-PRES (7737).

On June 14, Dr. Trista Hughes, a doctor of family medicine and obstetrics at Socorro General Hospital (SGH), received an inaugural Healthcare Champion Award from the New Mexico Early Childhood Care and Education Department. Dr. Hughes was one of four healthcare providers recognized for going above and beyond to connect patients with the department's Home Visiting and Family Infant Toddler (FIT) programs. She says, “Home visiting programs have the unique ability to support patients in an individualized way. These programs contribute to reduced levels of postpartum depression and anxiety, child abuse and domestic violence, and increased parental engagement and childhood literacy." Dr. Hughes is also a tireless advocate for rural health and support of families who are dealing with substance use disorder. She grew up in a rural community, where she witnessed the impact of rural healthcare firsthand. She says, “I've known that I wanted to practice rural medicine as long as I've known that I wanted to be a physician. It is so meaningful and rewarding to care for patients in this setting." Congratulations to Dr. Hughes, and a big thank you for your dedication to our community.

I want to share an update on Lincoln County Medical Center. Our doors are open and our clinics are running. We have resumed normal operations and are operating at full capacity. We are here to serve our community. This is a difficult time for our community and we will face many challenges in the near future. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you that experienced a loss during these tragic events. However, our community is resilient and I am confident that together, we can build back what makes this place so special. LCMC is proud to be part of those efforts. With gratitude, Todd Oberheu, Hospital Chief Executive, Lincoln County Medical Center

Meet Ernest “Sandy” Dunn, Presbyterian Rust Medical Center's newest volunteer. Sandy is a professional drummer who has performed all over the world and will be facilitating weekly music groups for our youngest patients and families. The playroom was definitely hopping this last week when he came to play for us -- thanks, Sandy! Looking to donate some time and talent?
