Employees recently spent a fun sunshine-filled day building, painting, and decorating two playhouses – a Bluey-themed house and a Marvel-themed house – for two young children in Connecticut. It was such a pleasure, not only to build the playhouses, but also to outfit each of them with unique mementos like twinkle lights, chairs, curtains, crafts, and action figures. It was incredibly rewarding to see the children’s faces when they realized they could take the playhouses home with them. Talcott was thrilled to again partner with Habitat for Humanity North Central Connecticut and is looking forward to future opportunities to give back to our community.  #community #philanthropy #talcottcares #helpinghands

Talcott was pleased to be a sponsor for the Actuaries’ Club of Hartford and Springfield semiannual meeting, recently held at the Hartford Convention Center. Over 300 local actuaries gathered at the meeting to discuss industry trends, attend professionalism seminars, and network with others in the field. John Brady, Talcott’s US & VA Chief Actuary, and John Golemba, a Senior Actuarial Consultant, teamed up for a well-attended breakout presentation on the trade-offs between complexity and interpretability in setting actuarial modeling assumptions. A group of 40 Talcott employees recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the Betances Learning Lab Magnet School in Hartford with Junior Achievement of Southwest New England. We were also thrilled to be joined by members of the Connecticut Insurance Department. We participated in “JA in a Day,” a program that prepares students for future success by offering helpful lessons that further connect their curriculum to real-world experiences. Our volunteers were able to offer a lesson on financial literacy to students in grades K-4, teaching them the importance of smart money decisions, helping your community, differentiating between needs and wants, and entrepreneurship. Thank you to the students and staff at Betances Learning Lab Magnet School for warmly welcoming us and to Junior Achievement for your continued support of local youth.
