Job Summary
The Family Engagement Training Specialist ("Specialist") will support the planning and implementation of a new initiative to develop a family engagement curriculum and training for schools implementing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). Reporting to the Senior Manager for Training & Development, the Specialist will conduct research, create professional development plans and materials, and facilitate professional development for educators. The Specialist will work closely with MTSS-I Center staff and other colleagues and partners to develop and implement the family engagement component of the Center’s curriculum.
This role will focus approximately half-time on the MTSS-I project. Other responsibilities may include providing one-to-one coaching and support to families and professionals navigating special education and other disability systems and delivering workshops on special education and related topics for parents, youth, and professionals.
Core Responsibilities
Research & Documentation
Collect and review relevant family engagement and MTSS models and literature
Summarize key findings and align with the larger initiative framework
Maintain data and project materials for effective reporting and information-sharing
Partnerships & Collaboration
Develop curriculum and instructional materials and facilitate professional development workshops with external partners
Cultivate and support partnerships with other stakeholders in the initiative
Curriculum Development & Training
Develop training and professional development materials reflecting adult learning principles
Develop and deliver culturally responsive, highly engaging, and interactive workshops and impart complex information in a clear and accessible manner
Coaching and Technical Assistance
Provide one-to-one technical assistance to professionals implementing family engagement initiatives
Provide one-to-one support to families navigating special education and other systems
Provide information and resources to help youth, families, and professionals gain the confidence and skills to partner effectively with other stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; master's or equivalent experience in education, social work, or related field is preferred
5+ years of professional experience, with at least two years in family engagement; knowledge of the MTSS framework is preferred
Knowledge of special education systems
Proficient in research and writing skills
Demonstrated efficacy in training and coaching; at least four years of experience in education/training is preferred
Ability to manage complex projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines
Grounded in culturally responsive education principles and practice
Willingness to travel via public transportation to locations across the five boroughs
throughout the year and outside New York City approximately four times per year.
Willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays as required

SALARY: $67,500-$70,000
