Has the term "online" become superfluous ?

I read this last week, and it has bounced in my head since. In the 20 or so years since the Internet became part of the human experience, so much has changed. This article, especially the section that starts with "Beyond the major themes", really hints at the scope of possible change to come, and I am not so sure it is really limited to "online" trust. In a sense connecting a bunch of computers together is in itself pretty trivial, but connecting so much of humanity together has had much bigger impact than anyone could have predicted...Is the term "online" becoming superfluous ?
