Today on the podcast, we're discussing MySpartanburg, our new City app allowing residents to easily and conveniently report service requests directly from their smartphones. Available through the Apple App store and Google Play, the app lets those who live, work, and play in the City of Spartanburg report any non-emergency service requests and receive updates on requests as they are assigned to City staff and completed.

Spartanburg City Council voted to approve first reading for a quartet of items related to the new minor league baseball stadium and adjacent developments at their meeting on Monday. Currently under construction, the new Fifth Third Park will be ready to welcome Spartanburg's new Minor League baseball team on Opening Day, 2025!

We're excited to announce the the selection of Fredalyn Michelle Frasier as our new City Planning Director! She brings a wealth of relevant experience to our growing community, most recently as Planning & Urban Design Senior Director with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and Central Atlanta Progress, where she facilitated the downtown development review process and successfully established operational and programming elements for the Downtown Arts and Entertainment District.

As part of ongoing efforts by the City and partnering organizations, the Homeless Engagement and Response Team (H.E.A.R.T) program was launched in 2022 to provide direct outreach to people experiencing homelessness in Spartanburg and to assist in connecting those residents with available service providers. Today on the podcast, we're talking with members of the H.E.A.R.T. program and the leaders who coordinate their efforts.

The City of Spartanburg is pleased to announce the selection of Pierre Brewton as the new Chief of the Spartanburg Fire Department, following an extensive and competitive national search. Chief Brewton comes to Spartanburg from the City of Albemarle, NC after serving four years as Fire Chief for the Albemarle Fire Department. He began his career with the City of Spartanburg in 1988, rising to eventually serve as Assistant Fire Chief before becoming Fire Chief in Albemarle.

At their meeting last night, City Council heard an update on a plan to address current and future demands on Downtown Spartanburg’s transportation infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles as the area experiences historic growth and redevelopment. The full Downtown Transportation Plan is expected to be released in April.
