Today's college students are not just 18-22-year-olds with minimal responsibilities. More often, they are adult learners over 22, attending college part-time, caregiving, and working at least 15 hours a week. Engaging these learners requires understanding their unique challenges and needs. Financial issues and life balance are the top factors influencing their decision to leave school, not poor academic performance or lack of motivation. At ReUp, we know how to reach and support these learners through tailored strategies that address their specific circumstances. Discover how we engage modern adult learners in our latest blog. What happens when life takes a turn or introduces unforeseen challenges? For many adult learners, the academic journey is not linear. Unexpected life circumstances can derail an adult learner’s path toward completing their education, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t find their way back. Jose “Alex” Colon originally enrolled in college to pursue his passion for electrical engineering, but stepped away when a lung cancer diagnosis required him to focus on his health. After battling and beating lung cancer and serving as his mother’s caretaker over the last decade before she passed away, Alex faced several circumstances beyond his control, each shaping his outlook on life and his path back to college. With the support of ReUp, Alex re-enrolled in school and is now on his way to earning his electrical engineering degree, but his experience has meant so much more: “This journey back to school has been about more than just getting a degree. It’s been about finding myself again, and I owe a lot of that to the support I received from ReUp.” Read his full story: https://lnkd.in/g8VKTkr7 #Inspiration #EducationJourney #HigherEd

Did you know there are 6.6 million Americans with stranded credits? These are credits earned but not leveraged due to financial holds that prevent transcript releases, creating a significant barrier to credential completion. This is especially challenging for adult learners from historically marginalized communities. Addressing these barriers is essential to enabling learners to return, complete their degrees, or transfer credits to another institution. Learn more about how addressing stranded credits is a crucial step in supporting adult learners in our latest blog. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g4GabzBE #WorkforceDevelopment #SkillsGap #HigherEd

As Amanda Gorman writes in her poem, "Believer's Hymn for the Republic": Today, we gather so that our Founders' words do not go diminished. But also so that the work does not go unfinished. For it's not just in a declaration of independence But the everyday declaration of its descendants That make a people equal. In observance of Independence Day, ReUp offices are closed today. This holiday offers a time to reflect on our nation’s history and take the time to consider the opportunities we all have to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future. Re-engaging adult learners is a crucial yet complex task for colleges and universities. Often, institutions rely on DIY methods such as reaching out via emails or phone calls, but these efforts come with significant limitations. Bandwidth: Internal teams often juggle multiple priorities, lacking the resources to engage a vast number of learners and personalize outreach to meet individual needs. Complex Engagement: ReUp's data reveals that effective re-engagement requires an average of 29 interactions per learner, a number that exceeds the capacity of most in-house teams. Institutions can overcome these challenges by leveraging technology and specialized knowledge to scale their efforts. Discover more about how to effectively re-engage adult learners in our latest blog. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g4GabzBE #HigherEducation #AdultLearners #StudentSuccess
