Advancing the civil and human rights for Asian Americans, building and promoting a fair and equitable society for all.

About us

Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC is a national organization working to empower Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) to participate in our democracy and fight for civil and human rights. Through public education, community organizing, litigation and policy development, we advocate for an America in which all Americans are able to equally benefit from, and contribute to, the American dream. With our Advancing Justice affiliates in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Atlanta, we have enacted a sweeping range of programs on critical national issues that enrich, enhance and serve our communities all across the country. We are one of the nation's leading experts on issues of importance to the Asian American community including: affirmative action, anti-Asian violence prevention/race relations, census, immigrants' rights, immigration, language access, television diversity and voting rights. Our expertise is widely acknowledged: in the media, by the public and lawmakers at the very highest tiers of government.

  • Today, the Biden Administration announced a program designed to protect undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens who have resided in the U.S. for 10 or more years from deportation, allow those individuals to work legally in the U.S., and remove barriers to U.S. citizenship. Another new policy will allow immigrants, including DACA recipients, who have earned a degree at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education in the United States, and who have received an offer of employment to more quickly receive work visas under certain conditions. The White House estimates that this new process will help about half a million spouses of U.S. citizens and about 50,000 immigrant children whose parent is married to a U.S. citizen, many of whom have been waiting decades for legislative reform. More details will be available in the coming weeks: applications are not yet open, and implementation will take more time.

  • This June, we join fellow organizations in celebrating #ImmigrantHeritageMonth and the significance of diverse im/migrant communities in our nation. Im/migrants have been the foundation of American economy and culture since the beginning of the country; we are and will continue to be a nation of im/migrants. Join the fight for the expanded protection and continued liberation of im/migrant communities. In the words of May Chen, “make a better world for family, friends, immigrants, and workers.”

  • Today, the Biden Administration announced new policies that would allow the government to rapidly expel asylum-seekers who cross between ports of entry, without individualized review, if border encounters meet a certain threshold. The new policy relies on the Immigration and Nationality Act sections 212(f) and 215(a), laws the Trump Administration used to implement the discriminatory Executive Order 13769, also known as the #MuslimBan
