A marketer I hired 3 years ago helped us reach new milestones. Then quit due to our philosophical disagreements. This conflict dramatically changed KlientBoost's trajectory: BACKGROUND This marketer was a good high school friend of mine, and was there to witness KlientBoost’s journey ever since the beginning. Around 2020, he started helping us with content as a freelancer, and then in 2021, joined us full-time as Director of Marketing. THE CONFLICT Since its inception, KlientBoost has essentially been a performance marketing agency, focused mainly on demand capture: paid search & social, CRO. When he came in, he kept challenging this, pushing for a different kind of marketing philosophy that the complex B2B buyer journey required: a long term, brand building strategy. Basically what most of us call demand generation today. But he even enlightened me about branding, psychology, and macro data to back it all up. I was stubborn and stuck with the ‘old ways’. Eventually, he left because of this philosophical misalignment. I just didn’t let him ‘do his thing’. The story could’ve ended here, but… THE PHILOSOPHICAL SHIFT I finally realized he was right only after I'd lost him. What started out as a conflict and something I actively rejected, turned into a major philosophical shift for KlientBoost. This change in our philosophy led to great things: - Attracting bigger clients and expanding our services - Part of the reason why we’re investing more in organic social now - Developing our new narrative (Marketing Maturity Mountain™ framework) - Launching a new service (demand gen/capture for high ACV B2Bs, more info soon) - Other great demand gen marketers joined (attracting true demand gen marketers before the shift would’ve been impossible) Still, I feel like we’ve only started scratching the surface. The marketer from this story is Drew Spencer Leahy 🥜 . This is my thank you to him, and a testament to how one great marketer can change your whole organization. So listen to them.
