Naval Surface Warfare Center/Naval Undersea Warfare Center Commander Rear Adm. Todd Evans, who was the presiding officer, was also in attendance. Matassa, who was previously the Chief of Staff for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Ship Programs, is a decorated Navy Officer who has served aboard USS Stump and USS Stephen W. Groves. Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) consists of approximately 3,200 scientists, engineers and support personnel working in more than 40 disciplines ranging from fundamental science to applied/in-service engineering. We are the Navy's experts for maritime technology and currently house world-class facilities and laboratories. As a major component and field activity of the Naval Sea Systems Command, the Carderock Division provides cradle-to-grave support for its technical products over an enormous range of scientific areas related to surface and undersea platforms. Director of Undersea Warfare, Rear Adm. Mark Behning, along with members of the N97 staff toured Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division on July 10, 2024, in West Bethesda, Md. Technical Director Larry Tarasek delivered a command overview highlighting the Division’s major technical competencies and toured the group through some of the base’s state-of-the-art laboratories. The facilities visit included the Vibration Lab, Fabrication Facility and Maneuvering and Seakeeping (MASK) basin. Students and educators participate in week-long #STEM workshop at #Carderock to learn about DoD STEM opportunities, and build their own SeaGlide - an autonomous underwater glider! This year’s workshop includes 42 participants from 5 local high schools (in DC and MD) and is made possible by TIES (a DSEC partner). The Pike District Partnership in Montgomery County, Md., and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division signed a Partnership Intermediary Agreement on July 1, 2024, to mark a significant milestone in fostering innovation and collaboration between the federal government and local businesses and educational institutions within the Pike District. Carderock Commanding Officer Capt. Matthew Tardy and Pike District Partnership Executive Director Eugene Cornelius signed the agreement at a ceremony that included many folks from Maryland, Montgomery County and the Navy.

Welcome aboard! NSWC Carderock Division welcomes its summer Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) interns over a two-day orientation in West Bethesda, Md., June 17-18, 2024. Over the course of two days, interns attended a variety of trainings, including a welcome message and Command Overview presentation from senior leaders at Carderock.
