Electra.aero has successfully completed off-runway grass field test flights of our EL-2 Goldfinch hybrid #eSTOL aircraft. These test flights proved our aircraft’s ability to operate from minimally prepared fields smaller than 300 ft, with a maximum performance climb-out of 32 degrees, and an impressively quiet 55-decibel overflight at 500 feet. At typical cruise altitudes, Goldfinch is inaudible over background noise. This dual-use technology is perfect for Agile Combat Employment and expeditionary missions, offering fuel efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and minimal environmental impact. Small, affordable, runway-independent eSTOL aircraft could also alleviate demand on larger, few-in-number, high performance fixed wing and rotorcraft platforms in a contested logistics environment. ✈ Watch the video and learn more at the link below! #AdvancedAirMobility #Aviation #Sustainability #AgileCombatEmployment https://lnkd.in/eXtS4nXd

⚡ It’s a BIG news day here at Electra.aero! ⚡ 🛩 We’ve successfully flown the first high-performance, ultra-short #eSTOL flight operations of our EL-2 Goldfinch demonstrator aircraft – taking off and landing in under 170 feet! 💡 Electra welcomes Buddy Sessoms as Chief Engineer for Electra’s eSTOL Production Aircraft! 🎬 Our new video of the first eSTOL flight is LIVE! 💻 We’ve launched a new updated website! “Today’s milestone is an incredible achievement as we’ve proven that our eSTOL aircraft has the capability to do what we said it could do – operate from spaces shorter than 300 feet,” shares JP Stewart, Electra VP and General Manager. “The aircraft handling at low-speeds has been exceptional and is matching our analysis well, building confidence in the predicted capability of the 9-passenger product design.” The test flights, piloted by Cody Allee, took place through April and May 2024 at the Manassas Regional Airport and Warrenton-Fauquier Airport in Virginia. The longest flight lasted 1 hour 43 minutes. During the campaign, the aircraft took off in less than 170 ft and landed in under 114 ft ground roll, the aircraft reached an altitude of 6,500 feet, and it flew as slowly as 25 kts on takeoff and landing. We hope you enjoy watching the video, and check out our new website for a deeper dive into our esTOL technology. Stay tuned, we're only getting started! https://lnkd.in/eTmUeB9R

Did you hear us on Federal News Network today? Electra.aero CEO John Langford joined "Federal Drive with Thomas Temin" to talk about how we're working with the US Navy's Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to explore the use of Electra's #eSTOL aircraft as a contested logistics solution. John explains how blown lift, an idea that has been around for years, combined with distributed electric propulsion, is the breakthrough that makes our ultra-short takeoffs and landings possible. Imagine fixed wing eSTOL aircraft operations from a container ship. Listen online to learn more at: https://lnkd.in/ejxe5-mu

MIT Technology Review remembers the Daedalus project, and Electra founder John Langford's "quest to build a perfect airplane" with the MIT team that built and flew the human-powered aircraft across the Aegean Sea 36 years ago last week. Their plane, Daedalus 88, still holds the record for absolute distance (71.5 miles) and duration (nearly four hours) of a human-powered flight. You can see the Daedalus 87, an identical twin to the plane that made the record flight, hanging in the transportation mall of Terminal B at Virginia's Dulles Airport. Electra.aero proudly continues the Daedalus team's mission of sustainable aviation today. MIT AeroAstro #sustainableaviation https://lnkd.in/eYunNTdk

Thanks to UP.Partners for sharing John Langford's talk on how Electra's #eSTOL aircraft will transform regional air travel, and his aim to inspire the next generation of aerospace innovators, presented at UP.Summit last year. Note that the cowboy hat was Up.Summit attire for the Texas venue! #UPSummit #electricaviation #regionalairmobility
John Langford, Founder & CEO of Electra.aero, considers short haul air travel “the Holy Grail of aviation.” Today, most people in the U.S. choose to travel by car for trips under 800 miles and by air for trips over that distance. But what if there was an air travel option that gave people more chance to fly on trips in the 50-500 mile range? That’s exactly what John and the team at Electra are working on. Watch his fascinating UP.Summit presentation on the reasons why short haul aviation is poised for disruption — plus his thoughts on the importance of dreams, wonder, and “paying it forward” in the aerospace community. #UPSummit #ShortHaulAviation #Aviation #AerospaceNews #VCNews #ElectricAircraft #eVTOL
