Protecting Our Natural World, Together

About us

Wild Earth Allies’ mission is to protect vital areas of our natural world for the benefit of wildlife, habitats, and people by inspiring collaborative action. Together with our field partners, we focus on locally-led actions to protect wildlife and habitats in ways that improve human well-being. We have built a solid track record of success over decades. Today, our community-based conservation efforts make a lasting, positive impact across more than 3 million acres of priority terrestrial and marine ecosystems globally. Our greatest strength is our people. We join forces with accomplished local practitioners to turn the tide of biodiversity and habitat loss in critical areas around the world. We engage in collaborative program design, implementation, and shared learning to maximize positive outcomes for wildlife, habitats, and people. Wild Earth Allies is built on important values—optimism, cultural respect, shared learning, and integrity. We select our initiatives based on the most pressing needs and genuine opportunities to catalyze change in culturally appropriate ways. Our lean structure allows donor support to quickly reach the field to benefit wildlife, habitats, and people. We have earned top nonprofit rankings from Charity Navigator for over a decade and the highest level of recognition by Candid (formerly GuideStar), the Platinum Seal of Transparency.

We’re proud to share a short film featuring highlights from our recent gathering in Washington, D.C. Together with Wild Earth Allies Board members, Ambassadors, supporters, and colleagues, we honored the extraordinary work of our long-time partners Augustin K. Basabose, MICHAEL Baraka NYAKABEJI, Eugene Rutagarama, and Joelle Rutagarama. Board member Mohamed Bakarr moderated a lively conversation with these distinguished panelists from the DRC and Rwanda. In Mohamed’s words, “Their leadership and their locally led actions are what’s going to drive the kind of change that we’re looking for at the planetary scale.”  Watch the film and join us in celebrating these conservation leaders! Welcome Cambodia’s newest species—the royal cave bent-toed gecko! Wild Earth Allies was thrilled to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, IUCN, the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and La Sierra University to help describe this gecko, Cyrtodactylus regicavernicolus. This new discovery highlights Cambodia's unique biodiversity and our team’s leadership in the field. Learn more: https://loom.ly/mXMQkKE Photo courtesy of Ministry of Environment, Cambodia

In Cambodia, our Community Fishery partners are working to save sea turtles trapped in fishing nets. Over the past few weeks, local fishers accidentally caught three endangered green sea turtles and reported them to the Changhaon Community Fishery in Kampot. The Changhaon team weighed, documented, and tagged the turtles before releasing them back into the Gulf of Thailand. By tagging turtles, we can track their movements and improve protection efforts. Big thanks to the Changhaon Community Fishery for making this work possible! 📷: Ben Valentine #SeaTurtleRescue #SeaTurtleConservation

#WorldRainforestDay is just two days away! Did you know: 🐸 Half of the world’s biodiversity can be found in rainforests 🌳 Rainforests absorb and store up to 30% of global carbon emissions 🌍 Scientists agree that protecting rainforests is critical to ensuring a climate-stable future 🪵 Only 36% of our planet’s original rainforests remain intact Today and every day, we celebrate these critical ecosystems and their guardians. We can all do more #forRainforests. Please join us. World Rainforest Day

We are honored to expand our coastal conservation programs to Cambodia’s Kampong Smach estuary in Sihanouk Province, thanks to support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, and the Sihanouk Provincial Fisheries Administration. We are also proud to partner with eight Community Fishery groups who rely on the estuary for its critical nursery grounds for marine life and as a vital source of income. This area became a Marine Fisheries Management Area (MFMA) in 2022 and now protects Cambodia’s second-largest mangrove forest. Globally, the ecosystem is recognized as a Key Biodiversity Area and an Important Bird Area. Recently, we led a mapping workshop and biodiversity assessment with our Community Fishery partners and the Fisheries Administration. This exercise was an important first step in co-designing an MFMA zoning and management plan that will ensure the sustainable use and long-term protection of the Kampong Smach mangrove estuary. 📷: Dalik Moeu
