LinkedIn is a professional social networking site launched in 2003 that has grown to over 100 million members worldwide. It allows professionals to connect with colleagues and peers, find potential job opportunities, and build their professional brands. While LinkedIn provides valuable networking and career development benefits, users should be aware of potential privacy and security risks from oversharing personal information or connecting with untrusted contacts online. Managing privacy settings carefully and verifying connections can help maximize LinkedIn's value while mitigating risks.

The fact that the United States is transitioning from a nation whose majority population is white to a nation in which the majority of the population will soon be people of color.
The document summarizes a presentation by Kim Crowder on making library marketing more inclusive. It discusses defining target audiences, barriers to inclusion in marketing like lack of diversity and understanding, and opportunities like partnering with local groups. It also covers creating messaging for audiences, being authentic if mistakes are made, and using an example of the marketing strategy used for the Indianapolis Public Library's Center for Black Literature and Culture.
Leaders may think that awareness programs are suitable for addressing unconscious bias, but they are just the start. Raising awareness of unconscious bias through presentations and tests does not actually change behaviors or outcomes. To effectively address unconscious bias, organizations need to focus on changing behaviors through shared knowledge, language to discuss biases, and structural approaches like requiring diversity in hiring panels. The most effective strategies are concrete rules and policies that change outcomes by increasing minority applicants and representation, rather than just focusing on awareness.
In this introductory webinar, representatives from the Center for Social Inclusion discussed the current context of race leading to a deeper analysis of structural racism. They argued that the intent to discriminate is mostly irrelevant because institutions are inherently inequitable, and even well-intentioned policies may discriminate on race (even though that was not their original intention). When we don’t pay attention to race in our policymaking and in our grant funding, we continue to see disparities. The speakers gave examples of how racial and equitable US policies are important for all Americans and then gave some tools funders could use to identify structural problems. Representatives of The Hyams Foundation then shared key points in their journey in applying a structural race analysis to a key programmatic area, as an initial step to infusing racial justice throughout the Foundation's work. The webinar concluded with a Q&A with the participants.
How Do You Attract the Best Talent? Five Companies Exemplify Recruiting Innov...Centerfor HCI
We have seen the emergence of the Human Age, where talent is the new differentiator. Yet organizations around the world struggle to find the talent they need. This is especially problematic, because 75 million Baby Boomers will retire within the next 10 to 15 years. Between now and then, there will be a lot of jobs to fill, and if finding great talent is difficult now, organizations are going to have to up their recruiting game, or suffer the consequences of being understaffed.
This document discusses strategies for improving diversity within nonprofit organizations. It begins by outlining why diversity is important for nonprofits, such as better understanding the communities they serve. The document then provides insights and recommendations for engaging three key demographic groups: females, Hispanics, and millennials. It suggests tactics like using social media, mobile accessibility, and micro-volunteering opportunities. Finally, the document presents a framework for achieving diversity that involves defining goals, assessing the current board, and improving recruitment and retention of diverse members.
The document proposes creating a Sara Lee Young Professionals (SLYP) affinity group to attract, develop, and retain young talent. It summarizes the characteristics of Millennials and benefits of developing talent internally. A steering committee is interviewing potential executive sponsors. The group would provide a voice for young professionals and foster a culture that values their input and career growth.
The document discusses strategies for achieving diversity and inclusion in the workplace. It provides statistics showing the growing diversity of the US population and workforce. It then discusses challenges such as unequal pay for women and lack of diversity in management. The document recommends developing a diversity action plan that includes getting management commitment, conducting an assessment, setting hiring goals, and specific actions to increase diversity like expanding recruiting efforts and training. The goal is to leverage diversity to gain competitive advantages like appealing to customers and innovating.
This document discusses diversity in public relations and organizational processes. It notes that while progress has been made in increasing diversity, minorities still face challenges. Specifically, it mentions that African Americans have helped drive changes in public relations. While their numbers are growing, stereotyping and discrimination present barriers. Managing diversity effectively and celebrating cultural differences can help organizations benefit from diverse perspectives and experiences.
Social Media for Volunteers, Charities and Non-Profits: Social ReputationViveka von Rosen
Viveka von Rosen is a social media expert and trainer who discusses managing your online presence and social reputation. She explains that social media allows you to connect with others and share information more easily. However, you must maintain transparency, authenticity, and integrity online. It is important to understand what information Google and others share about you online and to monitor what is said by and about your brand. Viveka provides tips on getting started with social media, including developing your brand, choosing appropriate profiles, and engaging with best practices.
How to Create and Manage Your Online Presence
The internet plays a critical role in shaping your impressions about companies, products and people. So, what impression are you creating online about yourself? Whether you need to do some damage control to your online reputation or want to establish an online presence, Viveka Von Rosen (Larimer County Workforce Center) will present relevant and valuable information. She will discuss how you can pro-actively create a professional, powerful, positive, and consistent online presence for yourself and how to develop your personal brand.
The document discusses the importance of diversity in the workplace. It notes that building teams with diversity of races, ethnicities, genders, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations gives a company access to different world views, backgrounds, experiences, and problem solving approaches. However, it also stresses that diversity means little without inclusion. It provides statistics showing lack of diversity in many fields and companies. Specifically, it shows underrepresentation of women and minorities in computing, boardrooms, and executive roles. It concludes that diversity and inclusion can boost performance, innovation, and business outcomes when done right.

This document discusses the concept of "covering" where individuals downplay or hide aspects of their identity at work in order to fit in. It finds that nearly 50% of respondents cover at least one identity, with LGBT, black, disabled, and millennial individuals reporting the highest rates of covering. Covering is driven by personal choice, organizational culture, and leadership expectations. However, covering can negatively impact individuals' sense of self and feelings of belonging at their organization. The document recommends implementing storytelling, inclusion labs, and leadership strategies to create a more inclusive culture and reduce covering behaviors.
